Frequently Asked Questions
What do moles look like?
Moles can appear anywhere on the skin, alone or in groups. They are usually brown in color and can be various sizes and shapes.
How do I recognize abnormalities in a mole?
Remember the ABCDE's in examining the changes in your mole:
- A = ASYMMETRY: when one half of the mole doesn't match the other half.
- B = BORDER: when the border or edges of the mole are ragged, blurred or irregular
- C = COLOR: when the color of the mole is not the same throughout, especially if it has unusual shades such as, black, red, white or blue.
- D = DIAMETER: if the diameter of a mole is larger than the eraser of a pencil.
- E = Evolving: when a mole starts to evolve, including changes in size, color or shape, or if it starts to bleed easily.
If a mole displays one or more of these signs, it should be checked as soon as possible by a Dermatologist.
What are warts?
Warts are skin growths caused by a viral infection in the top layer of the skin or mucus membranes. The appearance of a wart depends on where it is growing.
How do Dermatologists treat warts?
Freezing with liquid nitrogen is generally the preferred treatment. It is not too painful and rarely results in scarring. Repeat treatments at 2 to 3 week intervals are often necessary. Topical or injection treatments and in some cases surgical removal of the wart may be necessary.
How can I get rid of wrinkles?
There are many different approaches to reducing wrinkles. Our various anti-wrinkle lasers, such as ReFirme treatments cause heating in the dermis, thus stimulating collagen production and tighter, firmer skin. Another treatment that gets more dramatic results is the Total FX resurfacing laser. This is a fractionated laser that not only improves fine lines and wrinkles, but also resurfaces the skin for a smoother appearance. Both these treatments can improve laxity as well.
How can I even out the tone of my skin?
For overall tone of skin, Photo Rejuvenation IPL is a great option.
