How Can I Remove Brown Spots from My Skin?

Our Dermatologists Can Effectively Remove Brown Spots and Improve Skin Pigmentation As an older adult, do you find yourself examining yourself in the mirror, yearning for the days when your skin was as smooth and evenly pigmented as it used to be? There’s good news: Aging gracefully doesn’t mean you have to simply accept changes to your appearance that you dislike, particularly uneven skin pigmentation. A skilled dermatologist can help you remove brown spots, liver spots, age spots – whatever you call them, Advanced Dermatology Center has the proven technology to restore your skin’s natural beauty. How? Through a process called photo rejuvenation, also called an intense pulsed light (IPLTM) or Fotofacial.

Some of the skin imperfections a Fotofacial may be able to improve include:

  • Age spots
  • Broken capillaries
  • Birthmarks
  • Red, blotchy skin
  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Uneven pigmentation
  • Large pores
  • Acne scars
  • Smoothing fine lines and wrinkles

What Is a Fotofacial and How Does it Work?

IPL treatment works by emitting a broad spectrum of light to stimulate collagen and elastin growth that penetrates deep into the skin. Collagen is a natural protein that fills in wrinkles and makes the skin smooth and supple. IPL works by causing collagen and blood vessels to constrict, which therefore reduces redness and fine lines. A thin gel layer will be applied to the treated area to ensure even light distribution. You will be given a topical anesthetic to numb your skin, as you may experience some discomfort during the procedure. The treatment itself is a short, 15-30 minute procedure, depending on the size of the area to be treated.

During treatment, your skincare specialist will lubricate a handpiece to apply bright light to the skin. You will feel a warm sensation from the handpiece, which can feel like a snap from a rubber band. The number of pulses your dermatologist gives you depends on the treatment area size. Most patients feel very little pain and, if so, only for a brief period. Usually, there is no downtime.

Often, multiple Fotofacial treatments are necessary for the best results, especially if you want to remedy multiple facial imperfections.

How Soon Can I Expect Results from My Fotofacial?

Immediately after treatment, you will notice a slightly red or flushed appearance, which is to be expected. After several hours to a day after treatment, results will be more noticeable, and redness will fade. However, depending on the condition(s) you are treating, your experience may differ, which your dermatologist will be able to explain to you in further detail.
