What to Expect During a PDO Thread Lift?

If you are looking for a non-surgical way to rejuvenate and lift the skin, a PDO thread lift may be an option. A polydioxanone (PDO) thread lift uses dissolvable sutures to lift sagging skin, typically on the face and neck, for a younger, fresher appearance. PDO thread lifts are less expensive and quicker than facelift surgery and do not have a long recovery period. After a PDO thread lift, fine lines and facial wrinkles may also disappear.

Preparation

Typically, patients are advised to stop tobacco and alcohol use at least 5 days prior to the procedure and may instruct patients to avoid the following:

  • Omega-3 fatty acids
  • Aspirin
  • Advil and ibuprofen
  • Green tea and green tea extracts

The substances listed above can increase the risk of bruising and bleeding and should not be consumed after the procedure without a doctor’s permission.

What You Can Expect During a Procedure

During a PDO thread lift, the nurse will mark problem areas to give you a general idea of the final look and to ensure that the procedure addresses your concerns. Once the areas are marked, they are anesthetized, and the practitioner will begin inserting the threads using a cannula. The surgeon will anchor each thread in place and pull the cannula and move on to the next thread. Once this process is complete, the surgeon will cut the thread to ensure that it is in place.

Aftercare and Recovery

PDO thread lift recovery is minimal and may only take one week. Some patients may recover more quickly than others so be sure to consult with your surgeon about possible recovery time. There may be minor discomfort, inflammation, and bruising all of which disappear within one week of the procedure.

Typically, patients are advised to check up with their surgeon after the average recovery period to ensure that there are no complications. Patients should avoid rubbing the face to prevent dislodging the thread. Additionally, smoking, and pursing the lips may cause dislocation of the threads during the first few weeks after the procedure. Avoiding strenuous activities and pressure positions is recommended.

Other Considerations

PDO Threads last for one year or more depending on your anti-aging regimen – skincare, sun care, additional procedures, etc. Results appear as early as one week after the procedure with full results in a few weeks. PDO thread lifts are completely dissolvable unlike face lifts, so you can get your desired result with minimal risk.
